The Winding Road

AN ARRABON LENTEN DEVOTIONAL

A six-week series of reflections integrating prayer, Scripture, and creative expressions.

“What came into being through the Word was life, and the life was the light for all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.” John 1:3-5

We live in a moment marked by disorientation, division, injustice, and pain. Amidst the darkness, there are glimmers of light and hope. As Christ-followers, we live in the liminal space between love & loss, injustice & wholeness, and grief & joy. We trust in the goodness of God, and long for all things to be made new (Revelation 21:5). But if we’re honest, the road can feel long, lonely, and arduous. The truth is– we’re not alone, we are empowered by the Spirit of God to become more like Christ alongside a global community.

Throughout church history, the season of Lent has been an opportunity to be formed by Jesus’ journey to the cross. It is a liturgical season marked by repentance, sacrifice, and generosity.

The road to reconciliation and healing necessitates the people of God to be formed by our cross-bearing, enemy-loving, and liberating Christ. This Lent, we invite you to join Christ-followers across the country as we pursue spiritual formation for the glory of God and the sake of our neighbor.

This March, Arrabon is excited to launch our Lent Devotional, a six-week series of written and audio reflections. Each week you will be guided by prayer practices, Scripture reflections, spoken word, musical art, beautiful imagery, and more.

Join Us on The Winding Road

Each week, we’ll release a written reflection, an audio reflection produced in partnership with The Porter’s Gate, and a formation practice. Sign up today to receive the reflections as they release!

For many of us, we are anxious to get to the Hope of the Resurrection and the empty tomb, but Lent invites us to slow down and sit with the bumpy, lonely and winding road to the cross.“

About the Porter’s Gate Collaboration

Arrabon is grateful to partner with The Porters’ Gate on the creation and distribution of this project. The Porter’s Gate is a sacred ecumenical arts collective reimagining and recreating worship that welcomes, reflects and impacts both the community and the church.

Behind the Scenes

As a part of the creative process, Arrabon first gathered a group of more than two dozen emerging leaders, creatives, artists, and practitioners to participate in our Experiential Learning Journey in Montgomery, AL. During this trip, participants visited key Civil Rights era sites and the Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Sites. The experience was framed by our “Foundation of a Reconciling Community” workshop, which focuses on navigating complicated emotions that emerge amidst the work of racial healing and reconciliation. Each day ended with a time of creative processing led by Isaac Wardell of The Porter’s Gate where participants integrated their emotions, experiences, and God-given creativity.
