A Prayer of Examen for Pursuing Shalom Amidst Division | Passing the Peace
We hope this tool can be used to encourage reflection, integration, and humble pursuit of the Way of Jesus.

We are surrounded by disintegration and division—we see it in our social fabric, communities, and organizations, and we feel it in our friendships, families, and even within ourselves. It seems many Christians are formed by a discipleship rooted in partisanship. Instead, we must be discipled with a redemptive, Kingdom-focused imagination rooted in the hope of the resurrection. At Arrabon, we feel the weighty call to be continually formed in the image of Christ as we seek to live as ambassadors of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:20). We believe that reconciliation is spiritual formation. This means that we must be continually mindful of both who is forming us and how we are being formed. But, how do we do this?
For centuries, Christians have utilized a Prayer of Examen to engage with God in thoughtful consideration and honest reflection of their day in order to better discern God’s activity and presence. In a time of quick reactions, hot takes, and false binaries, we must be formed into people who are reflective, emotionally aware, and humble.
To that end, we have written a Prayer of Examen for our disintegrated and divided moment. Over the next few months, we’ll be sending monthly reflections about each of these Examen sections. We hope this tool can be used to encourage reflection, integration, and humble pursuit of the Way of Jesus. Our world desperately needs the people of God to take up the call to partner with God in the mission of reconciliation with humility, hope, and love.
